Jesse Dwyre

Jesse a travaillé au théâtre partout au Canada. Il est également apparu dans des productions télévisuelles et cinématographiques internationales. Il est très heureux de se joindre à Imago pour la première fois.

Au théâtre, il a participé, entre autres, à Red (Segal Centre), Brave New World (Theatre Passe Muraille), Ugly One (Tarragon), The Cherry Orchard (Guild Festival Theatre), Great Expectations (Soulpepper), Tin Drum (Unspun Theatre), Ugly One (Thousand Islands Playhouse), Farther West (Soulpepper), Of the Fields Lately (Theatre Calgary), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Drifwood Theatre) et Counsellor-at-Law (Theatre Calgary).

Ardent défenseur des nouvelles écritures, Jesse a contribué aux créations internationales de Silverwing (Manitoba Theatre for Young People), Get Away (Alberta Theatre Projects), Blacks Don’t Bowl (Black Theatre Workshop) et à 1812 de Norm Foster (Foster Festival) présentée en première cet été, sur le site historique de Fort George à Niagara.

L’amour de Jesse pour l’Histoire et le théâtre classique l’a attiré vers la compagnie du Stratford Shakespeare Festival où il a pu côtoyer des géants du théâtre, dont Christopher Plummer dans César et Cléopâtre, Martha Henry dans Les trois sœurs et La nuit des rois, et Richard Monette et Michael Langham dans Peines d’amours perdues.

Au cinéma, Jesse a tenu le premier rôle dans deux films tournés à Montréal : Adam’s Wall (Couzin Films) et Imitation (Atopia). À la télévision, il a récemment incarné Henry dans la série policière Jett de HBO. On l’a aussi vu sur CBS, NBC, ABC et CBC. Son goût pour le cinéma macabre ou étrange l’a mené à adapter à l’écran deux nouvelles de H.P. Lovecraft : Silas et la Tombe et l’Archiviste, des courts métrages dans lesquels il tient aussi le rôle principal. Ses films ont été diffusés sur Bravo et dans des festivals, dont Cannes, Raindance et le TIFF.

Il est diplômé de l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada, du Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre in Stratford et du Canadian Film Centre Actors Conservatory.

Parmi ses prix et ses nominations figurent ceux du Betty Award dans la catégorie Meilleur Second Rôle pour Ben dans Of the Fields, Lately au Theatre Calgary ; Meilleur Second Rôle pour son travail dans The Ugly One au Theatre Smash/Tarragon ; le prix Tyrone-Guthrie du Stratford Shakespeare Festival ; ainsi que le Prix du Meilleur Acteur au Summer Works Festival de Toronto, pour son interprétation du Diable dans Eurydice. À noter qu’il a reçu un Dora Award pour son travail dans la troupe The Ugly One au Tarragon.

Né à Kingston, Jesse est un joueur de batterie invétéré, un motocycliste passionné et un indéfectible partisan des Canadiens. Il est heureux de revenir dans cette ville si chère à son cœur, autant sur le plan personnel, que artistique et professionnel.

Jesse is a classically trained actor who has worked internationally on film, and in theatres all across Canada.

From Theatre Calgary & Alberta Theatre Projects, to the Tarragon Theatre, Montreal’s Black Theatre Workshop and Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Jesse has performed in both new works & classic adventures. He was most recently seen in the World Premiere of Norm Foster’s 1812, performed on-location at the Historic Fort George in Niagara.

His deep love of the classics landed Jesse in the Soul Pepper and the Stratford Shakespeare Festival acting companies. At Stratford, he notably worked with theatre giants Christopher Plummer in Caesar & Cleopatra, Martha Henry in Three Sisters, Richard Monette and Michael Langham on Love’s Labours Lost.

On screen, Jesse has played leading men in feature films, Adams Wall and Imitation.

He also travelled to Istanbul to film the role of Golan in The Cats, which won Best Horror/Thriller at the Houston International Film Fest.  On Canadian television, Jesse has appeared in numerous guest and principle spots for NBC, CTV, BRAVO and YTV.

Jesse’s screenwriting credits include; Silas & the Tomb – a short gothic thriller based on HP Lovecraft’s The Vault; and Lakehouse, a modern-day crime thriller both airing on BRAVO.  Jesse played leads in both of these creations.

Jesse’s acting award nominations include: Best Supporting Actor by Betty Awards for his work in Of the Fields, Lately for Theatre Calgary and Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Ugly One with Theatre Smash.  His award wins include: The Tyrone Guthrie Award from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. He was named Best Actor of SummerWorks Festival in Toronto, for his portrayal of The Lord of the Underworld in Eurydice. He was also Dora Award winner for The Ugly One at the Tarragon.

Jesse is also a life-long drummer and has recorded two full-length albums with rock group Stylewinder. He collaborates with many artists of varying styles for both live performances and studio sessions regularly.

In the field of arts education, Jesse is a regular coach and guest artist with Shakesperience, a Toronto organization that visits elementary and high school students and teaches the importance of theatre and how theatre can enrich and change their lives.

He is a graduate of The Canadian Film Centre Actors Conservatory, The Birmingham Conservatory of Stratford, and the National Theatre School of Canada.

He loves riding motorcycles, collecting and repairing antique cymbals and drums, and though he currently resides in Toronto, he is a devoted fan of Les Canadiens de Montréal.
