Julie Tamiko Manning

Julie is an award-winning actor and theatre creator based in ​Tiohtiá:ke /Montréal. She is very excited to be working with Surreal SoReal (for the first time!) and Geordie Theatre (for the many-th time) on Jonathan.

Geordie credits include: Alice in Wonderland, Brahm and the Angel and Promise is a Promise. Other acting credits include: Strawberries in January (Hudson Village Theatre), Paradise Lost (Centaur Theatre), Jean Dit (Centre du Théatre d’Aujourd’hui), Louis Riel: A Comic-Strip Stage Play (RustWerk Refinery). Butcher (Centaur Theatre), Othello (Scapegoat Carnivale/Segal Centre) and next Spring you can see her in another Geordie show: From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in The Sea.

She recently toured her play The Tashme Project: The Living Archives (with co-creator Matt Miwa)- a verbatim retelling of the Japanese Canadian internment experience- across Canada and is currently finishing her third play, Mizushōbai (The Water Trade) about Kiyoko Tanaka Goto, a Japanese picture-bride turned ‘underground’ business woman in 1930’s British Columbia.

Last but not least, Julie is a proud Sansei (third generation) Japanese Canadian.

Julie est une actrice primée et une créatrice de théâtre basée à Tiohtiá:ke /Montréal. Elle est très heureuse de travailler avec Surreal SoReal Theatre (pour la première fois !) et Geordie Theatre (pour la énième fois) sur Jonathan : la figure du Goéland.

Elle était récemment en tournée avec sa pièce The Tashme Project : The Living Archives (avec le co-créateur Matt Miwa) – un récit textuel de l’expérience de l’internement des Canadiens d’origine japonaise – à travers le Canada et elle termine actuellement sa troisième pièce, Mizushōbai (The Water Trade), qui raconte l’histoire de Kiyoko Tanaka Goto, une mariée japonaise qui est devenue une femme d’affaires « clandestine » dans la Colombie-Britannique des années 1930.
